I was very exited about the class as the description was about everything I adore: dance, arts, theatre. However, I did not know what exactly to expect and could not wait to see what will happen. The first part fascinated me completely. I could not stop asking myself: is this really a university class? Closing the eyes, feeling the sense of the body, realizing the significance of each movement are actually very meditating and inspiring. I enjoyed how all the people next to me forgot about the continuous control of the emotions and about being shy, feeling the complete harmony inside instead. During the “leading- following” part I was firstly in my life not scared to trust someone but wanted a partner to lead me, was open for every new direction, move and was ready to dance straight away.
I have never thought about the contemporary dance through the way Trajal approached its meaning. I wanted to understand it and involved myself completely in the creation of “ABCDF” dance connection. The way, we move, completely depended on the way we think about it: the power of our breath, the tension we direct in any part of our body and today I started understanding it. I did not know the “vouging” style at all as well and through exploring it I found out it has to do with modeling a lot, my another passion. I find the way Trajal builded his workshop is very original: because of the transition between practical and theoretical parts students never get bored and are always open for new information.
The idea of making the theoretical part with Professor Levine the last one during the day is ingenious. It would have been harder for me to make a clue about the terms and their context before exploring the moves and getting to know them practically. Thus, the discussion is a logical output and a wise explanation on the answered stuck in the head of everyone: what is a dance and how to make it natural. I am looking forward to get to know clearer what transcoding and other new terms mean which challenge my brain and make me exited at the same time.
