During this day I had an overarching thought across the different classes which is the ethics of research. Whether we are referring to research through the body, through conversation, through sifting through books. And how that is then documented. In “A Choreographer’s Handbook”, Jonathan Burrows says that “Research is whatever you need” (43). From this perspective, absolutely everything we are doing which is also simultaneously necessary, is research. And this creates more weight on everything that we are doing. In this way, it seems as though we are subconsciously consistently creating some form of meaning when we move, even if that meaning is just extracting meaning from something else.
